To determine what size dumpster you need, consider the size of your project, your available space, and what you will be loading.

No one wants to pay for a massive dumpster just to underfill and overpay. On the other hand, renting a dumpster that’s too small is an expensive mistake, leaving you with a heap of garbage and double the cost.

This is why we’ve made it easy to find the perfect size dumpster for every project. Along with our 10-day rental periods, we offer five different dumpster sizes to deliver the best fit for the job.

What Size Dumpster Do You Need?

Roll Off Dumpster Sizes - 10 Yard Containers

10 Yard Dumpster

If you’re short on space, this is a great place to start. 10 cubic yards is perfect for small amounts of debris, smaller renovation projects, and general cleanup.

Dimensions: 8 feet wide, 4 feet tall, 12 feet long
Load Capacity: Fills the equivalent of almost 5 pick-up trucks, or 1 ton of debris.

Best Used For:

  • A small basement, storage room, or garage cleanout project
  • A deck replacement of less than 250 square feet
  • A roof replacement of less than 1500 square feet
  • Most general yard projects or garden clean up
  • A small kitchen or bath remodel in a townhouse or apartment

Roll Off Dumpster Sizes - 15 Yard Containers

15 Yard Dumpster

If you have a slightly larger project with less available space on your property, consider our 15 cubic yard container. This is still a relatively small dumpster, but it is 12 inches taller than the 10-yard dumpster, giving you an extra 5 yards of space without the square footage.

Dimensions: 8 feet wide, 5 feet tall, 12 feet long
Load Capacity: Fills the equivalent of almost 6 pick-up trucks, or 1.5 ton of debris.

Best Used For:

  • Renovation or remodel of a single room
  • Flooring and carpet removal in medium to large homes
  • Large deck or roof replacement
  • Large basement, attic, or garage cleanup

Roll Off Dumpster Sizes - 20 Yard Containers

20 Yard Dumpster

This is perhaps our most popular dumpster rental because it works for a wide variety of projects while still being budget-friendly. It’s perfect for large home projects and small construction sites with plenty of space to house the dumpster footprint. They can be loaded easily and are generally big enough for most junk removal needs.

Dimensions: 8 feet wide, 6 feet tall, 17 feet long
Load Capacity: Fills the equivalent of almost 8 pick-up trucks, or 2.5 ton of debris.

Best Used For:

  • Major renovation or remodel of two or more rooms
  • Flooring or carpet removal in large homes or multiple units
  • A large deck or commercial roof replacement
  • A roof replacement of less than 1500 square feet
  • Most general yard projects or garden clean up
  • A small kitchen or bath remodel in a townhouse or apartment

Roll Off Dumpster Sizes - 30 Yard Containers

30 Yard Dumpster

A 30 cubic yard container can easily handle most demolition and construction projects. The 30-yard dumpster definitely gets you the most bang for your buck. If you have major commercial projects or renovations coming up, this will help get the job done.

Dimensions: 8 feet wide, 6 feet tall, 22 feet long
Load Capacity: Fills the equivalent of 12 pick-up trucks, or 3.5 ton of debris.

Best Used For:

  • Major renovation of entire home or multiple commercial units
  • Commercial flooring or carpet removal
  • Major home addition or new construction
  • Garage demolition
  • Replacing windows or siding on a small-to-medium sized home

Roll Off Dumpster Sizes - 40 Yard Containers

40 Yard Dumpster

For those heavy-duty jobs, we have our 40 cubic yard container. This dumpster size is designed with commercial customers and new homeowners in mind. It can handle just about anything from demolitions to large construction projects.

Dimensions: 8 feet wide, 8 feet tall, 22 feet long
Load Capacity: Fills the equivalent of 12 pick-up trucks, or 4 tons of debris.

Best Used For:

  • Major renovation of entire home
  • Major renovation of multiple commercial units
  • Large commercial remodeling projects
  • New construction
  • Full demolition

Here are a few things to remember when choosing your dumpster rental size:

  • Dumpsters in the United States are measured in cubic yards.
  • A standard F-150 truck bed is 2.5 cubic yards level full.
  • All of our dumpsters are 8-ft wide and between 12-22 feet long, so make sure you have room to park the dumpster as close as possible to your work site.
  • If you intend on loading the dumpster through the door on the end (instead of throwing or tossing things over the top), you’ll need an extra 8-ft of length wherever it’s parked.
